A RESOURCE AND DRUG tESTING KIT FOR PARENTS AND GUARDIANS
What is the Shield Program and Why Do We Have It?
The heroin epidemic in Summit County has been heavily reported in the news. *In the first six months of 2017, an estimated 1,269 drug overdoses were treated in emergency rooms that serve Summit County residents. When addressing youth and the use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs, nothing can take the place of parents and guardians. Research indicates that parents and guardians are the number one factor to deter the onset of drug and alcohol use. Nordonia Hills City Schools, in cooperation with the Macedonia Police Department, has added a tool to assist parents and guardians. Like a knight needs a shield to protect oneself from danger, a risk, or unpleasant experience, we would like to equip parents and guardians with the “Shield,” a resource and drug testing kit for parents and guardians, to arm parents and guardians with valuable resources, information, and a drug testing kit to be used to protect your knight from the danger and risk of alcohol and drug addiction. The Shield kits are available to all district parents and guardians at no cost and courtesy of the Nordonia Hills City Schools and the Macedonia Police Department. All you have to do is to ask for one, no questions asked. They are available at LE, the MS, and HS in the Guidance Departments. If you have any questions, please call Dr. Deb Wallace at 330-908-6020 or email [email protected].
